Region
What do locations have in common? A region is a basic unit of study in geography. A region is an area that displays coherent unity in terms of the government, language, and possibly the landform or situation. Regions are human concepts that can be mapped and analyzed. There are three different types of regions formal, functional, and vernacular. Formal regions are those defined by governmental or administrative boundaries. These regional boundaries are not open to dispute, therefore, physical regions also fall under this category. Functional are those defined by a function. If the function ceases to exist, the region no longer exists. Vernacular regains are those that are loosely defined by peoples perception.
